at Mt. Rushmore for Lights On!
This October 16th, join us at Mt. Rushmore for
the first-ever statewide Lights On Afterschool event
in South Dakota! Afterschool professionals, school
administrators, political dignitaries and others
will be on hand to recognize the importance of
afterschool programming in our communities.
SoDakSACA and the SD Afterschool Partnership are
currently encouraging children participating in
afterschool programs to write letters to First Lady
Obama and her daughters inviting them to this event.

SoDakSACA Conference at Deadwood - YEE HAW!
What do Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane and SD
afterschool professionals have in common?? They'll
all be in Deadwood this October for the annual state
conference! This year's event will be held at 'The
Lodge', the newest conference hotel and casino in
the Hills area, on October 15-16, 2010. The
conference will include great keynotes and
entertainment, including Randy Parrish, Linda Henley
Smith and Gordy Pratt. Rumor has it that Dr. Paul
Young, President and CEO of the National AfterSchool
Association might just ride on in and give us a
special 'what for' on Saturday! Be sure to check out
our Trading Post, General Store and Tatonka Tour!

Seeking Candidates for the SoDakSACA Board for
2011-2012
The following positions will be open for the
2011-2012 term for the SoDakSACA Board of Directors:
1) President; 2) VP of Financial Management
(treasurer); 3) VP of Member Relations (newsletter);
4) Southeast Region Rep; and 5) Central Region Rep.
Election of officers for the vacant positions will
be held at the annual meeting in October. If you are
interested in running for a board position, complete
a Candidate Application Form and submit it by

National Code of Ethics Available for Download
The National AfterSchool Association has released
the organization's first Code of Ethics for the
afterschool profession. The Code of Ethics was
approved by the NAA Board of Directors on October
24, 2008.
